Input accuracy

Are you using real, current numbers — not rough guesses that flatter the result?

Benchmark fit

Is your result healthy for your specific business model, not just positive?

Sensitivity

Which single input, if wrong, would change the result most?

Time horizon

Does this hold up over 12 months, or only at today's volume?

Next decision

What should change in the business because of this number?

A revenue target is abstract until it becomes a customer count. "£20,000 a month" is a wish; "200 customers at £100, and we add ten a month" is a plan you can test against reality.

This calculator makes that conversion, then tells you how long your current acquisition rate needs to get there.

Why customer counts beat revenue targets

A customer number can be checked directly against your funnel. If reaching the goal needs 200 customers and your only channel produces 40 qualified conversations a month at a 20% close rate, the timeline is arithmetic rather than aspiration.

Revenue targets hide that check, which is why they so often survive long after they have become unrealistic.

Use net acquisition, not gross

The new-customers-per-month input should be net of churn. If you sign fifteen and lose five, you are adding ten. Using gross additions produces a timeline that never arrives, and the gap widens as the base grows.

Raising price versus adding customers

Increasing average revenue per customer reduces the customer count needed proportionally. Going from £100 to £125 cuts the requirement for a £20,000 target from 200 customers to 160 — usually far easier than acquiring 40 more.

How this calculator works

  1. Enter your target monthly revenue.
  2. Enter average revenue per customer per month.
  3. Enter your current customer count and net new customers per month.
  4. The calculator returns customers needed, the additional customers required, the revenue gap, and time to goal.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use gross or net new customers?

Net — after churn. If you sign fifteen customers and lose five, your net acquisition is ten. Using gross additions produces a timeline you will never actually hit.

What if I have no customers yet?

Enter zero current customers and your realistic expected acquisition rate. The output then shows how long reaching the target takes from a standing start, which is usually a sobering and useful number.
